Carissa Stanton, MD, is a pediatrician who started her own virtual and direct pediatric care practice, Mindful Pediatrics, to provide holistic care for children in their own homes to make them more well, not just less sick. She cares for the whole child by integrating nutrition, functional, and general pediatric medicine. She has a bachelors of science degree in dietetics and a medical doctorate degree. She did several years of residency training in surgery at University of Kansas Medical Center and pediatric surgery research at Children's Mercy Hospital. But she found what kids really needed was her nutrition and healthy lifestyle knowledge and that she could help more through primary care. So she switched specialty training and completed a residency and board certification in General Pediatrics.
She has training in nutrition and integrative medicine that she obtained outside of the traditional medical training. Besides her undergraduate degree in nutrition, she did online pediatric integrative medicine training through the University of Arizona. She takes this passion and knowledge of nutrition and integrative medicine and applies it to helping families and children be more well.
After working for 10 years in the managed care system, she struggled to provide the care she wanted to give. It became more apparent that families need in-home, individualized holistic healthcare for their children, so she opened her own direct primary care practice: Mindful Pediatrics.
