CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle technique to work with the craniosacral system of the body, which includes all the bones and structures in the head, down the spinal column to the sacrum, and the spinal fluid. CST techniques encourage the body to release restrictions, allowing for subtle adjustments to take place in the head and along the spine, which helps to re-establish balance and alignment along the spine and calm the nervous system.
A CranioSacral session can be very relaxing, as it does work with the energy of the body, but it also works the physical aspect of the body that “holds” the body memory of what has happened to us in the past. The practitioner and client sometimes need to work together interactively during a session, in which case the client may need to stay more alert and involved in the process.
During a session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner places hands gently on the client’s body, using a specific protocol to help release restrictions in certain areas of the body before moving on to the next. Naturally, each individual’s experience is unique because our life experiences are all different. Sessions can be done in the practitioner’s office or the client’s residence.
